The FOPA is a civilian affiliate of the Faternal Order of Police. The members are friends and families of Law Enforcement Officers, responsible and respected business persons, professional men and women, support law enforcement personnel and citizens from all walks of life, people willing to devote a portion of their time and efforts toward assisting the various law enforcement agencies of our communties. The FOPA actively supports legislation, charitable causes and all law enforcement efforts on a local, state, and national level. The FOPA Grand Lodge was formed on August 27 1967. Local lodges work to assist their parent lodge. They provide law enforcement agencies with dedicated public support.
Florida does not have a State Associate Lodge. To encourage a rapport and spirit of fraternalism with the hundreds of Associate members throughout Florida who are affiliated with local lodges, our associates are welcome to attend all FOP State Lodge Conferences and Board meetings. A meeting space is provided so they may fraternize with Associates from thoughout Florida.
Our Local Associate Lodge after several false starts was re-chartered in 1999 and is now a fully functional part of our Lodge 66 FOP community. Led by support personnel of the Charlotte County Sheriff's Office our Associate Lodge meets monthly on the third Thursday of the month.
Persons eligible for membership are civilians, eighteen years of age or over who are of good moral character, from all walks of life who believe in a better community, active and good law enforcement by capable and proficiently trained law enforcement officers. No member shall be allowed to continue their membership in the lodge if they are convicted of a felony or a misdemeanor involving either force or violence or moral turpitude.
Our Associate Lodge is the recognized bargaining agent for civilian employees of the Charlotte County Sheriff's Office who have signed up and desire to be represented by the Fraternal Order of Police in contract negotiations each year with the Charlotte County Sheriff's Office.
