The Fraternal Order of Police Auxiliary was organized to unite families of members of the Fraternal Order of Police to promote their welfare socially, morally, and intellectually, and to encourage them in all things pretaining to their good. In 1920 a group of wives of Pittsburgh, PA. police officers gathered to discuss issues concerning their husbands and their jobs. This was the birth of the first FOP Ladies Auxiliary. Since that time the Auxiliary has grown to over 4,000 members in 1984 suborinate auxiliaries representing 28 states. In 1985, membership eligibility that originally allowed only females as members was extended to family members of any member of the FOP. In 1987 the name of the organization was changed, dropping the word "Ladies" to reflect the growth in membership of the organization.
Our Local Auxiliary Lodge was chartered on June 2nd 1986 and is also a fully functional part of our Lodge 66 FOP community. They meet on the third Wednesday of every month at 7:00 PM.
Persons eligible for membership are spouses, parents, children and siblings (18 years of age or older), mother-in-laws, father-in-laws, son-in-laws, daughter-in-laws, grandparents of the officer or spouse, grandchild (18 years of age or over), and "foster" or "step" situations within these relationships, of members who are in good standing in the Fraternal Order of Police, or of members who were in good standing at the time of their retirement from police service, or widows or widowers and the above mentioned family members of members who were in good standing at the time of death or retirement. No member shall be allowed to continue their membership in the State Auxiliary if convicted of a felony or misdemeanor involving either force, violence or moral turpitude.
The Auxiliary has a dental plan available for its members and yearly awards school scholarships.
Our Auxiliary currently has 79 members and is the largest in Florida and one of the largest in the United States. They are very involved with Local, State, and National Memorial Services. They assist Lodge 66 in many ways, and put on the events for our children and grandchildren for us.
By sponsoring a Bingo night at the "Bingo Hall" for the past several years the Auxiliary has become financially secure and has been able to financially assist the parent lodge in the expansion of the lodge hall and the erection of our FOP Memorial plaza in front of the Lodge.
